LEICESTERSHIRE AND RUTLAND LADIES' COUNTY GOLF ASSOCIATION 2021 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHIELD

LEICESTERSHIRE AND RUTLAND LADIES' COUNTY GOLF ASSOCIATION 2021 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHIELD

The prestigious Ladies’ County Shield competition was held at Hinckley on Thursday 20th May, with over a hundred ladies competing for the Scratch Shield (best team gross), the Handicap Shield (best team net), Ellis Trophy (best individual gross) and Vincent Trophy (best individual net).

Our Hinckley Scratch team comprised of Trudie Allen, Helen Adams-Brown, and Julie Jennings. The Handicap Team comprised of Linda Dunne, Elaine Edwards, and Denise Mather.

While we saw some remarkable scoring from individuals throughout the competition, the weather presented brutal conditions with dropping temperatures, driving rain and gusting winds. Special thanks go to our Ladies for representing the club at this event, a highlight of the County calendar.

The Scratch winners, from Willesley Park, were Tracy Bates, Eleanor Parkinson, and Tracy Bourne.

The Handicap winners, from Glen Gorse, were Di Render, Tracy Costas, and Gaynor Swingler.

The winner of the Ellis Trophy was Lacy Walton (Longcliffe) and the winner of the Vincent Trophy was Maxine Johnson (Cosby).

Well done to all who took part and congratulations to the winners.

Our thanks go to the marshals who supported the event and who were the “coolest” ball spotters ever. A huge thanks to Seniors’ Captain, Andy Lymn, for organising the team and a personal thanks to each marshal: Clive Pitt, Steve Manning, Colin Deegan, Chris Lester, Richard Wightman, Kevin Marston, Phil Harrison, Mike Kirby, Keith Gilbert, Richard Mather, and Bernard Mc Dermott. Hopefully by now they have warmed up.

Thanks to our starters Helen Buckingham, Sandra Baum, Rita Watts, Ellie York, and Di Fisher, who ensured all players were given a warm welcome and friendly advice.

The course was in great condition and beautifully presented. Many thanks to Adam Castle and his team for the hard work they put into getting it ready for the competition and for the early morning repairs to the 12th, following damage caused by horses.

Thanks to Amy Taylor, Helen Wilebore and Access Catering for working with the organisers in preparing for the event, and for looking after everyone on the day.
