The Council 2017

Club Captain

Steve Woodward

I have been a member of Hinckley Golf Club since I started playing golf in 2003.  During my time at the club I have spent time on the Social, Greens and Competitions Committee's and I am now enjoying my new role as Captain of the club.

I cannot believe the number of great friends that my wife Helena and I have made since joining the club, we have a great Social section and a fabulous golf course.

I joined Hinckley Golf Club over seventeen years ago after being persuaded by my husband  and children to take up golf. Initially most of my games were within the mixed group but since retirement I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to play regularly in the friendly ladies section.

My husband Bill and I have gained a large number of friends through playing golf and joining the many social fun events at the club. I am excited and looking forward to the my year as Lady Captain.

Golf Development Director

Steve White

I have been a member of the club for around 20 years. My main role is to look after the development of players whether that be Juniors, Ladies, Men or Club members. I work as an IT Manager in the world of Commercial Insurance and this brings many years of experience in commercial management to the club, which in the main is run by volunteers. One of my main aims over the next 3-5 years is to grow the grass root side of the golf club, taking Juniors as young as 5 through to 18 and letting them experience, and where possible develop, their golfing skills and become valued members of the club.

Junior

Vice-Captain

Sarb Matharu

I joined Hinckley golf club in 2005 after much encouragement from the Hinckley Golf Club Social Sec. John Neave. As a keen sportsman from my early years, playing semi-professional squash and having football trials for both Aston Villa and Leicester City, I enjoyed nothing more than the challenge of testing myself in different sporting activities. As a result, golf has now become my sporting passion.

I became the club’s Handicap Secretary in 2011 after requesting an explanation about a decrease in my handicap and was promptly asked if I would like to become the handicap sec! I am proud of the work of volunteers to continually improve the club; for example – as a competitions committee - we have established the criteria so that handicaps are managed in a fair manner according to the England Golf Union criteria.

I will relish the challenge of Junior Vice-Captain and try to fulfil my role with the same commitment and enthusiasm as our past Captains, who have contributed so much to the life of the club.

Greens Committee Representative

Mark Anthony

I have been a member of Hinckley Golf Club since 1990 and always lived within walking distance of the club. Having spent many hours, over the years, in front of the committee, it is an honour to have been given an opportunity to add value to the Club by becoming a member of the Committee. I’ve really enjoyed the social side of the club as it has evolved and improved over the years and am looking forward to participating in the club’s business’ behind the scenes’.  I’d like to use my 30 years’ experience in landscape design and being a member of the golf club for 27 years to helping Hinckley Golf Club become even more successful.

Immediate Past Captain

I started playing golf in 1997 after retiring from Rugby Union, a sport I thoroughly enjoyed and had the honour of being Market Bosworth Rugby Club Captain.  I have been at Hinckley Golf Club since 1999 and during that time have captained both the B & C Teams.

I have played sport all my life and enjoy the atmosphere, crack and camaraderie amongst the lads.  We have a great social side at the club and I am really enjoying my year as Club Captain.  I would like to thank everyone who has supported me after my injury.
