Well done to our C Team Captain Geoff Pegg on organising another memorable C Team Away trip. This year 20 of us descended on Greetham Valley GC to play for the coveted C Team Trophy. I was lucky enough to play with this years winner Ross Roberts who scored an impressive 38 points around the Lakes course. Well done to Ken Burke on winning Player of the Year. A fantastic couple of days and long may it continue!! Please click here for more photos from the trip.
A great effort by Ben Craig and the Under 35's in the Handicap League reaching the semi-finals at Kirby Muxloe Golf Club. After a close fought battle they they were unlucky not to qualify for the afternoon finals and were beaten by a strong Whetstone side. Thanks again to Vice Bill for your support throughout all of the men's County matches this year (although we do look at bit hungover at 8am Sunday morning).
Had a lovely round of golf today in President's Day with this bunch of characters. Greg and I took a bit of a hiding from a couple of sharks though!!! Well played Brian and Bill.
What a great year our County teams have had this year, reaching the semi-final of the Mens 4's, the final of the Mixed 4's and the final of the Under 35 Scratch Knockout. The finals were played at Park Hill Golf Club, which I have to say was probably in the worst condition of any course that I have seen in a long time. We had a great day out though and were narrowly beaten into runner-up spot in both competitions.
I would like to thank all of the players, caddies and supporters who have played throughout the season, watching the matches has been one of the highlights of my year.
Well done to Anthony Haste on a very successful first Pro's Day, it was a great format and I think Anthony is a great asset to our club. I played with a few of my old mates and had an absolute blast. Thanks Knock, Ian and Mick for a lovely round of golf.
We had a great day out on President's Away Day at Robin Hood Golf Club. Many thanks to Mr President Alan Millhouse for organising the event and also thanks to my team mates Phil Carpmail and Brian D'Authreau for playing so well and securing a win for our team.
A big thank you to Lady Captain Sandra and Vice-Captain Bill for organising a fantastic weekend away for the Mixed Section at Hawkestone Park. Well done to Sarb & Judy Matharu for winning the Holiday Salver. Please click here for more photo's from the weekend.
Great result to report tonight. Hinckley beat Glen Gorse (in the dark!) 4up in the Under 35's Scratch KO semi-final. Well played to the boys Chris Brook, Sam Evans, Mike Turns and Jonny Golding. Off to the 36 hole final now in Sept 10th at Park Hill. Come on!!!!
Congratulations to Ken Burke and Martin Ray on winning the Men's Autumn Open with a great knock of nett 63, well played boys. Best gross went to Gary Parr and Chris Brook with an impressive Gross 66. A massive thank you to Bill Baum and everyone who helped out on the day and in all of this year's Men's Opens. We had really good comments about the condition of our course.
Ian AB and I had a great game today against a pair who made us laugh all the way round. A big thanks to Shaun and Alan for a Saturday morning spent playing golf the way it should be. Good company and loads of fun. Thanks lads, I think we all put on a legendary display of putting this morning ;-))
Well played to Trudie Allen & Donny Jay Parkin and Jonny Golding & Aleisha Macdonald on last nights stunning victory over Kibworth in the County Mixed 4's semi-finals.
OMG through to the final against Ullesthorpe on Sept 10th. Great support from HGC members last night, thank you all for your support. More details on the finals to follow soon.
I had a great game today playing with Chip and Roger in the Payne Cup, some quality golf from Mr Deeney and a lot of laughs on the way round. Thanks boys, I hope you've both stopped itching now.
A fantastic result tonight at Beedles Lake GC with the Hinckley Team of Donny & Trudie and Will & Andrena beating the home team 1Up to advance to the semi-final stages of the competition. Well played team Hinckley, we now face Kibworth in the next round at a neutral venue, tbc.
I would like to thank everyone who came and supported us at the Proms Under The Stars night on Saturday. Under rather testing conditions we somehow managed to have a superb evening. Singing in the Rain is something that I will never forget. Priceless! We raised a huge amount of money for our charities and we would like to thank everyone involved. Also a big shout to Ellie York for being our official photographer for the evening, great job Ellie.

This week we started construction of the stage and facilities for the 'Proms Under The Stars' evening this coming Saturday. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who was involved, I won't list everyone but you know who you all are. It was a huge undertaking but we pulled it off in the end.

I had a great morning with this pair of sharks in the first round of the Club Trophy. Well played to Will Jenkins for going on to clinch the title with a very impressive 64 & 70 (-8). Two under gross for his first nine holes, brilliant to watch pal! Obviously Azza's and my golf standards didn't put you off too much. Great fun lads. Also well done to Tony Yates who finished a close second and third place Stacey Milbourne who shot an amazing 61 nett on Sunday. Please click here to view the full results.
Talk about a good away result! The boys turned over Cosby on their home turf 1 up to reach the semi-finals of the Men's County foursomes tonight. Well played Chris & Jack and Charlie & Sam on an amazing result. Ullesthorpe next in the semi's on Weds 2nd August at Melton Mowbray. Bring it on!
Great weather today for the Men's Invitation Open, we trialled a shotgun start for this year's event with a barbeque on the patio afterwards. This created a fabulous atmosphere as lots of players stayed for a beer and the presentation. Well played to Clark & Scott Rammell who took the honours with 46 points. Thanks to everyone who played and to Bill Baum and helpers for the superb organisation.

The Observer was hosted by Hinckley this year and the course was in magnificent condition. Unfortunately we were beaten by a better Atherstone team on the night which completed our run of 2nd places for the week. A great effort by all who played throughout the week and to everyone who caddied, spectated and helped to organise the events a massive thank you.

Thursday night saw the Rosebowl and Hodge teams competing at Nuneaton GC. On what turned out to be a scorching night both teams were narrowly beaten into second place by the home club Nuneaton. Well played to everyone involved on a valiant effort.

The first night of Tripartite Week saw the Jarvis Team in action at Atherstone GC. Unfortunately for the first time in the history of Tripartite we were unable to field a Junior team for the Chaddaway. The Jarvis boys played really well and in a nail biting finish lost out to Atherstone by 1 shot.
Please click on the picture below to see more photo's of the day.
It's Tripartite Week already and the fun kicked off today with the annual Captain's 54 Hole Challenge. Richard Tudge and I played against Chris Bassford (Atherstone Captain), John Mayne (Nuneaton Captain), Ian Cartwright (Atherstone Vice-Captain) and Cliff Wright (Nuneaton Past Captain). We teed off at 6am at Atherstone before moving on to Hinckley, then Nuneaton. Lots of food, champagne and laughs resulted in Atherstone pipping Hinckley by a couple of points to take the trophy. One of the best days of my year so far and long may the tradition continue.

Chris Brook successfully defended his Club Champion title today with a cracking pair of 73's to finish +4 over the two rounds. Well played pal, a deserved champion. Jonny Herbert was runner-up, pulling things back well after a shaky start with Charlie Blakeman finishing 3rd. The full results are available by clicking here.
Great result for our County Mixed 4's team tonight, a 4 up victory over last year's champions Charnwood Forest GC. Good wins by both Donny & Trudie and Jonny & Aleisha in not the most summery of conditions. Beedles Lake away next on Weds 26th July.
Congratulations to Chike Clay on winning Captain's Day with a great score of 41 points. Well played pal and great effort in reducing your handicap by 3 shots. I thoroughly enjoyed watching some great golf and catching up with everyone on the day. David Dewis was 2nd and James Wileman 3rd on countback, both with 40 points. Please click here for the full results.

Congratulations to the Under 35's Scratch KO team who had a resounding 15 up victory at home to Whetstone GC. Tremendous performance boys, Rothley at home in the next round on Wednesday 19th July.
Well done to Annette Cattermole & Rita Watts on winning Mr Captain's Trophy for Ladies with a fabulous score of 44 points. I had the best time serving strawberries and prosecco to the ladies at the cabin with the invaluable help of Sandra Bloor. In 2nd place were Sue Smith & Trudie Allen with Carol Crew & Diane Fisher finishing 3rd on countback with 42 points. Please click here for the full results.

A massive thank you to everyone who supported me on my Captain's Weekend Away. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did! We had amazing weather and The Vale Resort was way beyond my expectations.

Captain's Weekend has arrived at last and we managed to get away a day early and have a crafty round at Radyr Golf Club in Cardiff. If you ever get a chance to play here it is well worth a visit, cracking course and very welcoming. Thanks to Knock, Pot and AB for joining me. The young bucks managed to squeeze a well earned shilling out of the old boys!!
A fantastic 2 UP win away tonight against Forest Hill Golf Club in the Mixed County 4's. Solid performances from our teams of Jonny & Eleisha and Donny & Trudie. Well played guys, last years champions Charnwood Forest await us in the next round, but crucially its a home draw on June 26th!
A gritty performance by the 1st Team tonight at Birstall saw a narrow 5-3 defeat. There were some great individual performances and this was always going to be a tough away fixture. It will be a different story when we play them at home! The lads would also like to say a big 'Get Well Soon' to our top supporter Colin Deegan, we miss you at the matches pal and look forward to having you back soon. x
We had a fabulous time on our trip to Formby this week, the course was incredible and if you ever have the chance to play there I would thoroughly recommend it. A big thanks to Barry Ayre for organising the trip and the weather!!
To view some more pics from Formby please click on the photo below.
Had a super game of golf in the Singles Knockout this evening with Ben Wilkinson. The weather was amazing and we had a lot of fun out there. Ben played some great golf and informed me after hitting a 300 yard drive up the 6th that 'I've just realised what's been wrong with my swing lately', not what you want to hear from your opponent in a singles matchplay, lol. Top bloke Ben, good luck in the next round pal.
Helena and I had a lovely game today with two long standing members of the club who have started playing in the mixed section. Martin and Hilary Dunphy showed us how it was supposed to be done in the Greensome Stableford Qualifier. We all love a Greensome!! Well done on qualifying guys and good luck in the knockout stages. Congratulations to Rod Sanghara and Trudie Allen on winning the day with 39 points and a big thank you to the Ladies Vice-Captain Anne Knight for a well organised competition. Unfortunately we missed out on qualifying on the back 6, close but no cigar!
I have received some very sad news this afternoon that Mick Hope Snr has passed away. Mick was a lovely man and a very popular member of the club. Our thoughts are with the Hope family at this sad time.
Stunning victory 5.5 - 2.5 (at home) against last year's scratch league champions The Leicestershire tonight. Some great individual performances but the main stand out for me was the team spirit. The lads are having regular practice sessions together and the results of this are clearly noticeable in the team ethos and performance. Well played boys and thanks to everyone who came and supported, I had a lovely evening putting the world to rights with The Leicestershire's Captain Francis. Birstall away next on Thursday 25th May.
Well, following the pre-match banter on Facebook, Ian AB and I had a convincing loss to John Goes and Mandeep Mudhar in the Men's Open. It's the first time we have played with these guys and we had a terrific round of golf, laughs and banter all the way round. Thank you guys for generously donating your spoils of the day to the Captains' Charities. Look forward to doing it again soon!
The winning team in the Men's Open were David Orme and Dave Marsden from Drayton Park GC with a magnificent score of 44 points. Well played boys and thank you for your complimentary remarks about our Course and Golf Club. Full results are available by clicking here.
Had a great game with this pair of rogues on Saturday in the Singles Qualifier. I don't think we will be pushing for a 1st Team spot in the coming months but my sides were aching at the end. Thanks Tudgey & Pot for a lovely day.
A big thank you from Lady Captain and myself for everyone who took part in Saturday's Captains Charity Day. Apologies for the late post to the blog but I had to fly to Dubai on Saturday evening for work. The Paddling Pool Challenge raised an amazing £230 towards our charities. It appears that the best pitchers we have in the club are Nathan White, Steven Cokayne, Steve Liggins and Donny Jay Parkin who all successfully hit the target from 65 yards! A big thanks to Bill Baum, Helena Woodward, Malcolm Porter, Andrena Porter, Lewis Whitehurst, Amy Taylor, Sarb Matharu and Anthony Haste for all your hard work. Well done to the AmAm team of Jez Sparkes, Andy McLeish, Mark Ginns and Duncan Cullen who won the comp with an impressive 92 points.
Full results of the competition can be viewed by clicking here.
It is with sad regret that I have to announce the passing of two of our members this week.
Barrie Woodward was a very popular member who played with the Seniors, I remember when Helena and I first joined the golf club, Barrie and Rosalie made us very welcome and introduced us to our first social events, Barrie always had a smile and will be sadly missed.
David Arnold had been a founding member of Hinckley Golf Club and had served as Club Captain, President and also for a number of years on the Board of Directors. One of the great characters of the club, always with a story to tell. I spent an evening with David at the L&RGU Dinner in February and he was in his usual resplendent form. He will be greatly missed.
I'm sure all of our thoughts are with Rosalie, Moira and all of the families.
Details of funeral arrangements are available from Helen in the office.
Thank you to the Senior's Section for inviting me to present the prizes at their Spring Open. Congratulations to D Brotherhood, Peter Gilliver, Peter Butler and Robert Broadhurst from Atherstone GC on winning with a great score of 86. Well done to everyone who organised a fantastic day, full field, good weather and great comments about the course and catering. There were 3 teams of visitors in the top 4 prizes which is great news.
The full results can be viewed by clicking here.
Ian AB and myself had a great game with two really good friends in the Pairs Knockout today. Ian Gunn and Neil Robinson narrowly beat us on the 12th green, they both played some excellent golf (Sarb if you're reading this take note!!). We thought our golf was pretty good but pars were not enough to beat these guys. Good luck in the rest of the competition boys, we hope you go all the way!
Played in the George Birt Fiddle today and had a really nice round with my playing partner Colin Wilson and opponents Neil Robinson and Charles O'Donnell. What a difference a couple of weeks warm weather and sunshine make, the greens were really fast and the course is starting to look fantastic. Well done to the winners on the day Dave Thompson and Bill McDonald with a great knock of 45 points.
We hosted a Men's 1st Team County Match against Staffordshire on Sunday which consisted of a Foursomes in the morning and a Singles in the afternoon. The course was presented beautifully and many of the players (who are also greenkeepers at other courses) praised the condition of our course. The match was a close run thing coming down to the last putt on the 18th which resulted in the match being halved. Well done to Joe Matharu who represented the County 2nd team at Whittington Heath Golf Club, the team beat Staffordshire 2nd's by 10-5, with Joe winning both of his matches 6&5 and 1up respectively, great effort Joe. Full results are available by clicking here.
We had a fanastic night at the Captains Welcome & Farewell social function with a full house of 155 people coming along. A big thank you to Pete & Coda for rocking the house and to the Social Team and everyone else who helped out. Congratulations to Michael Turns & Adams Watts on winning the Captains Welcome Competition with an impressive 45 points on countback from Sanjiv Kohli & Sarb Matharu. Click here for full results.
Please click on the photograph below for more pics from the night.
Judy Matharu and Brian Godfrey presented a cheque for an outstanding £10,742.00 to Macmillans on Tuesday at the Cheque Presentation Lunch, what a fantastic effort, well done both.
I had the honour of playing in the Ladies Competition in the morning and my team of June Upton, Ellie York and Kathy Webb had an excellent round together. We would easily have won the prize for the most fun had on the day. Ellie played some outstanding golf, with birdies on all of the par 3's, what a talent!!
Winners on the day were the team of Irene Steele, Sally Bedward, Sheila Chave and Rita Watts, well played Ladies.
This years Captains Charities are Scleroderma & Raynauds and Bowl Cancer, Henry Mcginty and Mike Holton attended the lunch as representatives of these charities and gave very informative talks about the work that they carry out. Please click here to visit the Captains Charities web page for more information.
We had a great night at the Atherstone Golf Club Annual Dinner Dance. It's always good to catch with with old friends and rivals from Tripartite Week. Thank you to Lady Captain Sandra & Bill Baum, Barry & Sue Ayre, Bob & Rita Watts, Sarb & Judy Matharu and my lovely wife Helena for a fun nght. Prizes for guessing what Sarb is up to??
I had the pleasure of being invited to open the Spring Bridge Drive and was made most welcome on the day. The raffle raised an excellent £180.00 towards the Captains Charities. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and to Judith Cooke for inviting me along.
Congratulations to Geoff Pegg and Ian Malone on winning this year's Winter League. They narrowly beat Clive Ryder and Ian Proud on the 18th green in a very close match. A big thank you to Phil Stokes, Neil Robinson and Dave Grimley for organising this year's Winter League. I'm not 100% sure how long these boys have been doing the job now, but the time and effort that you put in is greatly appreciated by all who play.
Well what a great start to the year. We had a full field for the Captain's Drive In consisting of both Men's and Mixed teams playing in a shotgun start. I had a lovely game with Lady Captain Sandra Baum, Seniors Captain Mick Foote and Juniors Captain Roddy Webster. We were extremely lucky with the weather and extremely relieved after our traditional 'drive in' took place after the competition. I would like to thank everyone who came along to support us and to the 100+ people who stayed for the afternoon meal.
A special thank you to Colin Deegan & Diane Fisher who helped to raise over £800 for the Captains Charities by running the annual car park spaces draw. A further £159.00 was raised by the 'Guess the Length of the Drives' competition. Also thanks to Bill and Helena, without their organisational skills the day would not have run so smoothly.
Well done to Marvin & Laraine Cook, Jonathan Jones and Maureen Foote on winning the Mixed Competition and to Tim Davidson, Nigel Bennett, Keith Higgott and Whiz Whitehurst on winning the Men's Competition.
Sandra and I had a fantastic day and it was great to share it with our families and so may friends. Thanks again!
